As the capital city of Iowa, Des Moines is a major center for the insurance industry. With the headquarters for Principal Financial Group and Meredith Corporation being located right downtown, the city has a sizeable financial services and publishing business base. Other major corporations such as Wells Fargo, Nationwide, ING Group, Marsh, Ruan Transportation and John Deere also have large operations in or near the metro area. Forbes ranked Greater Des Moines "4th Best Place for Business and Careeers" for the second year in a row.
Greater Des Moines' population grew by over 65,000 people from the 2000 Census through July 1, 2007. West Glen Town Center is located in the newest hub of West Des Moines, minutes from downtown Des Moines and surrounded by strong commercial and residential growth. According to the U.S. Census from March 2008, Greater Des Moines' population grew by over 65,000 people from the 2000 Census through July 1, 2007. Dallas County's population grew by 40.5% during that timeframe, putting them in the top 31 counties in the U.S. for population growth.
West Glen, the highest point on the Mills Civic corridor, sits on Iowa's first Single Point Urban Interchange a nearly $19 million project at the intersection of I-35 and Mills Civic Parkway. West Glen's close proximity to I-80 and I-235 also makes it conveniently close to the Des Moines International Airport and national roadway arteries. |
